Personal Communication to Members
First and foremost I would like to apologise to you our members for the lack of contact and communication from the
NHS BME Network for the best part of 2013. This has been mainly due to circumstances beyond my control and in no way reflects the commitment of the Executive Committee. However we have continued to meet throughout the year and as outlined below participated in a number of initiatives.
The headlines over the past week/months have clearly shown that institutional racism remains a major concern with the NHS. For example a BBC headline this week is that UK BME doctors are four times more likely than white candidates to fail their clinical GP exams. You may also be aware that the Nursing Standard has sent an FOI request to NHS organisations asking for information about the career progression of BME nurses and we await the outcome with interest.
